Video as a window to enriched assessment! Part 1: Lesson Viewing
May 24, 2017
A+ schools across the network are using video to transform their practices. Capturing video is increasingly easier with the technology advancements in mobile devices and market demands driving down handheld camcorder versions.
Videos are an affordable option to improve enriched assessment practices that transform both professional and student learning. Here is one of two stories of how A+ schools are using video to excel reflective learning.
Booker Arts Magnet:
The Professional Learning Community of Booker Arts Magnet decided to capture video of lessons for peer observations and feedback. Lessons are collaboratively developed among PLC teams during BAM’s district provided professional development days. Lessons were recorded with iPads and smartphones and then reviewed during regularly planned PLC time slots. Using video avoided having to arrange substitutes and maintained a more natural learning environment. The footage can now be used as part of the Teacher Excellence and Support System portfolio and professional growth plan. Way to go, BAM!
